Description

Day 1: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley – Ouarzazate
Total road time: approximately 5 to 6 hours of scenic driving (excluding sightseeing and lunch stops).

Begin your journey with a morning pickup from Merzouga, followed by a 45-minute drive to Rissani. This historic town was the capital of the Alaouite dynasty and the ancient trading city of Sijilmassa. Explore the lively local market, traditional kasbahs, or visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif, depending on the schedule.

Next, travel about 2.5 to 3 hours to Todra Gorge at the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. Walk through the canyon floor, flanked by massive limestone cliffs up to 300 meters high, and enjoy photo opportunities along the river.

Then, continue through the rugged Dades Valley—known for panoramic views, unique rock formations, and Berber villages. Reach Ouarzazate by early evening (approx. 2-hour drive), where you will have a traditional dinner and stay overnight at a local hotel.

Day 2: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
Total road time: approximately 4 to 4.5 hours of driving across the Atlas Mountains (excluding stops).

Start with a visit to Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate, the filming location for movies such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Then drive 30 to 40 minutes to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, a well-preserved fortified earthen village. Walk its winding alleys, climb to the granary for views, and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, reaching 2,260 meters. Capture views of terraced valleys, snow-capped peaks, and Berber hamlets during the 3.5-hour drive to Marrakech.
