Description
Your day begins with a meeting at Café France in Jamaa el Fna Square, Marrakech, followed by a 40-minute drive to a women-managed local craft cooperative near Toubkal National Park. Here, you will enjoy a Berber breakfast and learn about local products.
Next, head to Imlil to meet your mountain guide and mule. After some mint tea, embark on a trek passing waterfalls and villages such as Ait Mizan and Targa Imoula. You will stop in Aroumd village, known for its terraced fields of barley, corn, and vegetables, surrounded by cherry and walnut trees.
Your guide will provide insights into Berber culture and heritage throughout the walk. You will have mint tea with a Berber family during your descent and finish with a traditional Moroccan meal in a Berber family guest house.
The route follows the road from Marrakech through Tahnaout and Asni, passing olive groves and villages separated by prickly pear cactus borders. You will visit the Asni market if your trip is on Saturday, one of the few traditional mountain markets in the region.
The destination, Imlil Valley at 1740m altitude, lies in the Toubkal Massif, home to North Africa’s highest peak, Toubkal (4167m). From there, you trek by foot or mule between Berber villages, including a visit to the distinctive village of Aroumd at 2000m altitude.
