Description

This tour runs the same route to the same waterfalls 150 kilometers northeast of Marrakech through the Atlas foothills but with a pace and program designed around what families with children actually need. This is not a family-only excursion. The group may include families, couples, and adult travelers. Departure from Marrakech at 8:00am. The drive takes about 2.5 hours through olive groves and Berber villages. The road itself is part of the experience; our guides point out the agricultural terraces and explain the wheat and olive harvest cycles that define this region. For children who ask questions, there are real answers. At Ouzoud, we descend via the easier western path— wider, less steep, manageable for children from age 5. The first stop is always the monkey ledge, where the Barbary macaques come close enough to observe properly. We stay here as long as the children want. This is usually 20-30 minutes. There is no rush. The trail continues down through olive trees to the base of the falls: 110 meters of water dropping into a natural pool surrounded by red rock and mist. The boat ride at the base of the falls is optional and included; most children want to do it, some don't, both are fine. Lunch is taken at a small local restaurant right in front of the falls, terrace tables with a direct view of the cascade. The menu is simple and Moroccan: tagine, grilled brochettes, salads, fresh bread, mint tea, and orange juice. No rush, no fancy presentation. Children can move between the table and the water's edge, eat at their own pace, and the view of the falls keeps everyone entertained while the food arrives. The return ascent uses the same western path. Slower on the way up, with stops. Back in Marrakech by early evening. The tour is designed for families with children between 4 and 14. Younger than 4 is possible but the trail requires carrying them on steeper sections. Maximum 15 people including children.
