Description
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Tinghir
Your trip begins with an early pickup from Marrakech, leaving the city behind as you travel into the High Atlas Mountains. Travel along the winding roads of Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), where panoramic views reveal dramatic valleys and Berber villages built into the mountainsides. Along the way, enjoy selected photo stops before continuing to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most preserved ksars. Here, you can explore the earthen alleys, climb to the top for sweeping views, and learn about the history of this ancient fortified village that has appeared in films such as Gladiator. After free time for lunch near the kasbah, continue your journey through Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert,” and pass through the scenic Valley of Roses. By late afternoon, arrive in Tinghir, a charming town surrounded by palm groves. Check into your comfortable hotel, enjoy a Moroccan dinner, and relax for the night.
Day 2: Tinghir – Todra Gorges – Merzouga Desert (Erg Chebbi)
After breakfast, begin your day with a short drive through the green oasis of Tinghir before arriving at Todra Gorges, where towering walls rise up to 300 meters. Take time to walk along the riverbed, admire the sheer rock formations, and experience the cool freshness of this dramatic canyon. Continuing your journey east, pass through Berber villages and changing desert scenery as the terrain transforms into vast open plains and golden dunes. Upon reaching Merzouga, you will meet your camel and begin a trek across the dunes of Erg Chebbi, perfectly timed to witness the breathtaking Sahara sunset. Arrive at your desert camp, where you will be welcomed with traditional mint tea and warm hospitality. Settle into your tent and enjoy a freshly prepared Moroccan dinner under the stars. As night falls, gather around the campfire for live Berber music and drumming, or simply take in the silence of the desert sky filled with countless stars, creating a truly unforgettable atmosphere.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert – Return to Marrakech
After breakfast at the camp, return to Merzouga by camel to meet your driver and begin the journey back to Marrakech. This day features a long but scenic drive through changing landscapes, from desert plains and rocky plateaus to palm-filled oases and mountain roads. Enjoy several comfort stops along the way for rest, photos, and lunch at a selected location. Passing again through Ouarzazate and the High Atlas Mountains, take in the shifting light across the valleys and peaks as you make your way back toward the city. Although it is a full day of travel, the route offers a final opportunity to appreciate Morocco. Arrive in Marrakech in the evening, where you will be dropped off near your accommodation or at a central meeting point, marking the end of your 3-day Sahara desert trip.
