Spending a night in the Sahara Desert is one of Morocco’s most unforgettable experiences. This three-day journey takes you deep into the desert while exploring some of the country’s most remarkable landscapes and cultural highlights along the way. Discover the UNESCO listed Ait Ben Haddou, travel through the Valley of the Roses and Tinghir, visit traditional Berber villages near the Todra Gorge, and enjoy a camel trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi the highest dunes in Morocco. Spend the night beneath a blanket of desert stars at a traditional Berber camp. Day 1: Marrakech – Tinghir Your shared 3 day desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga begins early in the morning. Journey across the High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, stopping along the way for photos and short breaks. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ait Ben Haddou, an ancient fortified village that has served as the backdrop for numerous Hollywood films. Continue to Ouarzazate, often called the “Gateway to the Sahara,” In the afternoon, travel through the fragrant Valley of the Roses toward Tinghir. Upon arrival, check into your hotel, where you’ll enjoy dinner and an overnight stay. Day 2: Tinghir – Merzouga After breakfast, depart Tinghir and drive along the famous “Road of 1001 Kasbahs.” Take a scenic detour along the river toward the dramatic Todra Canyons. Spend time exploring the towering cliffs of the Todra Gorge and enjoy lunch at a local café at your leisure. In the afternoon, continue to Erfoud, known for its date market and as a historic starting point for ancient trading caravans crossing the Sahara toward Timbuktu. From there, travel through striking rocky desert landscapes to Merzouga. Upon reaching the edge of the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes, meet your camel caravan and set off on a memorable trek across the golden sands as the sun sets on the horizon. Arrive at your desert camp just before nightfall. After settling in, savor a traditional Moroccan dinner served under the stars beside a campfire. Later in the evening, enjoy live Berber music as local hosts play traditional drums beneath the clear desert sky. Day 3: Merzouga – Marrakech or Fes Rise early to witness a breathtaking desert sunrise. After breakfast, ride your camel back to the main road, where you’ll meet your driver for the return journey. Depending on your selected option, transfer back to either Marrakech or Fes, bringing your Sahara adventure to a memorable close.
