Description
Day 1: Marrakech–High Atlas Mountains–Tizi n’Tichka–Ait Ben Haddou–Tinghir
Your journey begins early in the morning with pickup from Marrakech, leaving the city behind as the landscape gradually shifts toward the High Atlas Mountains. You will cross the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m), the highest paved road in Morocco, offering panoramic views of valleys and traditional Berber villages, with short stops along the way for photos. Continue south to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its earthen architecture and historic role along ancient caravan routes, where you will have time to explore its narrow alleys and elevated viewpoints before enjoying lunch nearby. Afterward, the journey continues through Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Morocco,” then through the scenic Rose Valley, known for its palm groves, and seasonal rose fields. By late afternoon, you arrive in Tinghir, a peaceful oasis town set along the Todgha Valley, where you will check in to your hotel, enjoy a Moroccan dinner, and relax after a full day of travel.
Day 2: Tinghir–Todra Gorge–Erfoud–Merzouga Desert
Start your day with breakfast at your hotel before heading toward the impressive Todra Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs rise up to 300 meters. Take a guided walk through the gorge and enjoy its cool setting. Continue your journey through oasis and Berber villages, including Tinjdad and Erfoud, known for palm groves and fossils, marking the transition into the Saharan region. Stop in Touroug for a lunch break and a short cultural experience, where you can try Saharan attire and a free henna tattoo. Upon arrival in Merzouga, located at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes, take a short break before preparing for your desert experience. Your main luggage remains in the vehicle, and your essentials will be transferred to the camp by 4x4. Meet your camel guide and begin your trek across the golden dunes as the sun begins to set, offering changing colors and wide desert views, with stops for photos and sandboarding. Arrive at your desert camp, settle into your tent, enjoy mint tea followed by a Moroccan dinner, and spend the evening around the campfire with Berber music and drumming under the stars, before an overnight stay in the Sahara.
Day 3: Merzouga–Kelaat M'Gouna–Tizi n’Tichka–Marrakech
Enjoy breakfast at the desert camp and the quietness of the Sahara. Your small bags will be transported by 4x4 back to Merzouga. Afterward, ride your camel back across the dunes to meet your driver. Depart Merzouga and ride through desert plains and oases, passing through Erfoud and along scenic routes lined with palm groves and Berber villages. Continue toward Kelaat M'Gouna for a lunch stop. Afterwards, cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Arrive back in Marrakech in the late afternoon or evening, where you will be dropped off at your accommodation or the nearest accessible point, marking the end of your 3-day desert journey.
