Description

4 Days Desert Tour from Marrakech to Fes: This 4-day adventure takes you across Morocco’s most stunning landscapes, from the bustling city of Marrakech through the dramatic High Atlas Mountains, the golden Sahara dunes, and finally to the cultural city of Fes. Along the way, you’ll experience ancient kasbahs, lush valleys, authentic villages, and the magic of the desert under the stars. Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Dades Gorge: Your journey begins with a pick-up in Marrakech, heading east across the High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m). The winding road reveals Berber villages, waterfalls, and sweeping mountain views. Midday, you’ll visit the famous UNESCO site of Ait Benhaddou, a fortified ksar and filming location for movies like Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. After lunch and exploration, the drive continues through the Valley of Roses and into the Dades Valley. At sunset, you’ll arrive at the dramatic Dades Gorge to enjoy dinner and overnight in a traditional guesthouse. Day 2: Dades Gorge – Todra Gorge – Merzouga (Sahara Desert): After breakfast, you’ll stroll through the impressive Todra Gorges, with its towering rock walls and fresh river streams, before continuing along the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.” Passing Tinghir and small oases, you’ll reach the town of Rissani, once the first capital of the Alaouite dynasty. Here, explore the local souk and enjoy a traditional lunch. By afternoon, you’ll reach Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara. A camel caravan will carry you across the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset, where you’ll spend the night in a desert camp. Enjoy Berber music, traditional dinner, and a star-filled sky in the heart of the Sahara. Day 3: Sahara Exploration – Rissani – Khamlia – Merzouga: Wake early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, the day is dedicated to discovering the desert’s hidden gems. Visit Khamlia village, home to Gnawa musicians whose ancestors came from sub-Saharan Africa, and enjoy their vibrant music. Then explore a nearby oasis and continue to Rissani, where you’ll taste the region’s specialty, Berber pizza (Medfouna), and walk through its bustling market. In the afternoon, return to Merzouga for a restful evening. Dinner and overnight in a desert hotel provide a comfortable close to the day. Day 4: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Ifrane – Fes: After breakfast, begin your journey north through the scenic Ziz Valley, dotted with lush palm groves and fortified villages. The road leads to Midelt, where you’ll stop for lunch and admire the dramatic landscapes between the High and Middle Atlas ranges. Driving further, you’ll pass through cedar forests, home to Barbary macaque monkeys, with a chance to spot them in their natural habitat. Continue through the alpine town of Ifrane, often called “the Switzerland of Morocco,” before arriving in Fes by evening.
