Description

Experience life in the Sahara Desert on a small group tour to the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Ride a camel across the sands and watch the sunset along the way. Drive across the winding roads of the Middle Atlas Mountains and much more. Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou Cedar Forest – Midelt – Ziz Oasis – Merzouga Desert: Your adventure begins at 7:45 AM with a prompt pick-up from your hotel or the nearest meeing point in Fes. From there, we head south, descending through the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains en route to the enchanting Sahara. Our first stop will be in Ifrane, often dubbed the Switzerland of Morocco due to its clean streets, alpine-style architecture, and pleasant climate. You’ll have some free time to stroll through the town and snap photos, including one with the iconic stone lion statue. Next, we’ll drive to the cedar forests of Azrou, home to playful Barbary macaque monkeys. Here, you can interact with the monkeys ( however please be carefull) and enjoy the crisp mountain air. Continuing our journey through lush landscapes, rocky cliffs, and charming Berber villages, we’ll arrive in Midelt for a relaxing lunch break nestled between the Middle and High Atlas ranges ( Lunch is not included but a restaurant is suggested & it is optional) After lunch, we drive through the Ziz River down into the impressive Ziz Valley, dotted with date palm groves and fortified villages. By late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, on the edge of the vast Erg Chebbi dunes. Depending on timing, we may relax at a local Kasbah before beginning your camel trekking adventure. As you ride across the dunes (approx. 20 minutes), watch the golden sands light up under the setting sun. Upon reaching the desert camp, you’ll check into your tent and enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner. Later, gather around the campfire under the stars and enjoy Saharian music played by locals to your first day. Stay overnight in your choice of a shared, private standard, or private luxury tent. Day 2: Merzouga - Tafilalte - Fes Wake early and walk across the dunes to watch the sunrise from just behind the Massive Dunes. You can go back to your tent to freshen up and get ready for breakfast. The get ready for the drive back to Fes or Marrakech, and enjoy the passing by attractions. Day 2: Merzouga – Marrakech Start your day early with a peaceful walk on the Sahara dunes and enjoy a stunning desert sunrise. After breakfast at the camp and time to freshen up, we’ll begin the scenic drive to Marrakech. The route passes through the 'Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,' Berber villages, and the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass. Expect beautiful landscapes along the way. Arrival in Marrakech is around 8 to 9 PM, more or less depending the traffic and stops made along the way. For the return to Marrakech option, the drive is long takes around 10 hours. For a more relaxed pace and extra stops, the 3- or 4-day option is recommended.

Important Information

  • Desert camps are often far from major cities, with travel times of around 10 hours from Marrakech to Merzouga and approximately 7 hours from Merzouga to Fes.
  • Expect weather extremes—very hot days in summer (June to August) and cold nights in winter (December to February).
  • Cell service and Wi-Fi may be limited or unavailable, so it's a good idea to share your itinerary with someone in advance.
  • The upgrade to the luxury camp is to be paid per person.
  • The quad bike activity is individual, to be paid per person for one hour.
  • Vehicles have AC, but during summer (June–August), airflow may not circulate evenly throughout the vehicle. If you're sensitive to heat, we suggest bringing a small personal fan to help stay comfortable during the ride.
